Keeping Yourself Healthy - April Blog, By Chris Alexis
Positively Premier: Keeping Yourself Healthy

Here a COVID, there a COVID, everywhere a COVID, COVID. It’s all we hear about. All we read about. The world has been taken over by this virus. But instead of focusing on sickness, we want to discuss your health — both physically and mentally.

Let’s start with physically.

And it turns out, we have some great news! A researcher out of the University of Virginia has discovered that regular exercise causes our muscles to create an antioxidant that travels through the blood into our kidneys, lungs and heart . . . and actually REDUCES the chances of coronavirus becoming lethal.

Yep, being active helps you live. LITERALLY.

Now, these antioxidants — named extracellular superoxide dismutase (or EcSOD for short, we’ll go with that!) — are at the center of several scientific studies. These involves using mice to make discoveries, which will eventually (hopefully) then be used to get EcSOD into more people, either through a medication or taking it out of one person and delivering it into another.

But you can start producing your own by working out. And that production begins as soon as you start putting in the effort.

However, it takes a few weeks to develop enough to get a reasonable amount of protection. So we need to get moving! Check out our earlier blog entry about FREE at-home workouts we provide!

Now, what about mentally?

As we mentioned above, news about COVID-19 is everywhere. There’s a lot of doom and gloom from every corner, from your TV to your iPhone. But guess what? Those devices also have an “off” button. Use them! Escape from the darkness and find something else that gives you joy.

Exercising is not only good for producing life-saving antibodies, but it’s also good for managing anxiety. Your stress levels will reduce if you start moving those muscles. (Remember those free at-home workouts blog entry?)

Also, try meditation and getting enough sleep, along with eating healthful, well-balanced meals. In addition, 86 the alcohol. Some people use that to cope, but as you probably already know, that’s not a healthy route.

And if things get really bad, there is no shame in seeking outside help. Seriously. In fact, taking care of yourself, which also makes you better able to care of others in the long run, is to be admired.

And remember, there *is* light at the end of this tunnel. We’re going to get through this. It WILL have an endpoint.

Remember, our doors may be closed at this moment. But our hearts and minds are not at all. Here at Premier, we still strive to be an important and helpful resource for you.

Always.
